Language teaching professionals enhance their careers and improve the profession by developing materials, conducting language research, presenting papers at conferences and seminars, and writing for professional publications.
MATESOL and MATFL students are strongly encouraged to participate in these activities before completing their degrees by joining professional associations and contributing their time and energy as officers, committee chairs or volunteers. Attending conferences introduces students to professional presentations, exposes them to new topics, and other professionals in the field.
Toni Washuta MATESOL 98 reflects on her experience as a student, "Many of the presentations I saw at the TESOL convention were very thought-provoking.
