The Monterey Institute advocates career self-reliance and trains students in the development and application of a personalized career plan. Students are guided and encouraged by their GSLEL Career Director through such steps as self-assessment, developing acareer toolkit, building a professional network, gaining professional experience, and marketing oneself for success.
During the program, students are given career training and guidance. In-class presentations specifically address how to prepare a curriculum vitae. Students refine their interviewing skills at mock interviews in the practicum course. Likewise, workshops and seminars are offered on a variety of career topics by the GSLEL Career Office to support students' career interests.
The campus email system hosts specific job conferences for posting TESOL and TFL jobs and internships, which are accessible to student and alumni via the internet.
In addition, the GSLEL Director of Career Services is available for individual appointments to discuss career needs and goals and to provide resources for professional development and success in the field of applied linguistics. Please contact 831-647-4174 or gslel@miis.edu for more information.
